Patoloji
Patoloji, "tecrübe" ya da "acı çekme" anlamına gelen eski Patriklerin (πάθος) köklerinden ve "logia (-λογία)", "bir hesap"), hastalık nedensel araştırmasının önemli bir bileşenidir ve büyük bir alan modern tıp uygulamaları ve tanı. Patoloji terimi genel olarak hastalığın araştırılmasına, geniĢ bir biyolojik bilim arastırma alanları ve tıbbi uygulamalar yelpazesine, ya da "genel patoloji" nin çağdaş tıp alanındaki eserlerini tanımlamak için daha dar bir Ģekilde dahil edilmesi için yaygın olarak kullanılabilir çoğunlukla doku, hücre ve vücut sıvısı örneklerinin analizi yoluyla hastalığı teşhis eden farklı ama birbiriyle ilişkili tıbbi uzmanlıkların sayısı. Ortak bir isim olarak kullanılan "bir patoloji" (çoğul "patolojiler" veya "patozlar") belirli hastalıkların öngörülen veya gerçek ilerlemesine de işaret edebilir ("birçok farklı kanser çeşidi farklı patolojilere sahiptir" ifadesinde olduğu gibi) ve "path-" öneki bazen (kardiyomiyopati gibi) bedensel hastalıkların olduğu durumlarda ve psikolojik durumların (psikopati gibi) hastalığın durumunu belirtmek için kullanılır. Patoloji yapan bir doktora bir patolog denir.
