Peroksit
Bir peroksit, bir oksijen-oksijen tekli bağ veya peroksit anyonu O2- 2 içeren bir bileşiktir. O-O grubuna peroksit grubu veya perokso grubu denir. Oksit iyonlarının aksine, peroksit iyonundaki oksijen atomlarının oksidasyon durumu -1'dir. En basit kararlı peroksit hidrojen peroksittir. Superoksitler, dioksijeniller, ozonlar ve ozonitler ayrı olarak düşünülür. Peroksit bileşikleri kabaca organik ve inorganik olarak sınıflandırılabilir. İnorganik peroksitler iyonik, tuza benzer bir karaktere sahipken, organik peroksitlerin kovalent bağları hakimiyeti altındadır. Peroksidin oksijen-oksijen kimyasal bağları dengesizdir ve homolitik bölünme yoluyla kolaylıkla reaktif radikallere ayrılırlar. Bu nedenle, peroksitler doğada sadece su, atmosfer, bitkiler ve hayvanlarda az miktarda bulunurlar. Peroksit iyonu oluşumu, oksitlerin iyonik kristallerde fazla oksijen barındırabildiği ve katı oksit yakıt hücreleri de dahil olmak üzere bir dizi endüstriyel uygulamada büyük bir etkiye sahip olabildiği ana mekanizmalardan biri olarak ön plana çıkmaktadır.
