Sözlükteki telefonun tanımı, bir ses şiddetini, bir 1000 hertz frekansı ve 20x10-cm2'lik bir kök-ortalama kare ses basıncı olan bir referans tonunun üstünde bulunan desibel sayısıyla ölçen bir ses yüksekliği birimi olup, 6 pascal.
