Fotobiyoloji, ışık ve canlı organizmaların etkileşimlerinin bilimsel çalışmasıdır. Alan, fotosentez, fotomorfogenez, görsel işleme, sirkadiyen ritimler, biyolüminesans ve ultraviyole radyasyon etkileri üzerine çalışmayı içerir. Photobiology'nin ilk Yüzyılının mükemmel bir özeti, Amerikan Fotobiyoloji Derneği eski başkanı Dr. Thomas Patrick Coohill tarafından hazırlandı. İyonlaştırıcı radyasyon ile iyon olmayan radyasyon arasındaki bölüm genellikle bir oksijen atomunu iyonize etmek için gereken enerji olan 10 eV olarak kabul edilir.
