Alanın büyüklüğü göz önüne alındığında, insan fizyolojisi, hayvan fizyolojisi, bitki fizyolojisi, hücresel fizyoloji, mikrobiyal fizyoloji (bakınız mikrobik metabolizma), bakteri fizyolojisi, viral fizyoloji. Fizyolojide en yüksek onur, 1901'den beri İsveç Kraliyet Akademisi tarafından verilen Nobel Fizyoloji veya Tıp Ödülüdür.
