Piquetero kelimesi Arjantinli İspanyollarda bir neologizmdir. Piquete'den, yani belirli bir noktada protesto gösterisine ya da ayakta tutma eylemine özgü anlamından geliyor. Bir piquetero, birincil modus operandi piquete'de olan bir siyasi fraksiyonun üyesidir. Piquete, belirli bir konuyu veya talebi göstermek ve bunlara dikkat çekmek amacıyla bir grup insanın bir caddeyi veya sokağı engellediği bir eylemdir. Bu eğilim Arjantin'de başkan Carlos Menem'in idaresi sırasında 1990'ların ortasında başlatılmış ve kısa bir süre sonra Güney Amerika'daki sosyo-politik sahneye hâkim olan sıkça protesto haline gelmiştir.
