Placodermi, Silüriyenden Devonian Dönemi'nin sonuna kadar yaşayan fosillerden bilinen nesli tükenmiş bir zırhlı tarih öncesi balık sınıfıdır. Başları ve toraksları mafsallı zırhlı plakalarla kaplanmıştır ve vücudun geri kalan kısımları türe göre değişir veya çıplaktı. Placodermler ilk çene keki arasındaydı; çeneleri muhtemelen solungaç kemerlerinin ilkinden itibaren gelişti. Placoderm'ler parafyletiktir ve saflarında ortaya çıkan tüm canlı çene omurgalılarına birkaç farklı outgroups veya kız kardeş taksonu içerir. Bu, modern kemikli balıklarda bulunan türden bir kemik çene ile bilinen tek placoderm olan 419 milyon yıllık bir fosille (Entelognathus, Çin) aittir. Buna insanlarda ve diğer tetrapodlarda bulunan bir diş kemiği dahildir. Diğer plaskodermlerin çeneleri basitleştirilmiş ve tek bir kemikten oluşuyordu. Placoderm'ler, aynı zamanda gerçek dişlerin yanı sıra tetrapodlarda arka planda olanların öncüsü olan pelvik kanatlar geliştiren ilk balıktır. Üç diğer genera olan Incistoscutum, Materpiscis ve Austroptyctodus'un 380 milyon yıllık fosilleri, bilinen en eski canlı doğum örneğini temsil eder.
