Güç faktörü
Elektrik mühendisliğinde bir AC elektrik güç sisteminin güç faktörü, yüke akan gerçek gücün devredeki görünür güce oranı ve -1 ile 1 arasında boyutsuz bir sayı olarak tanımlanır. Gerçek güç, devrenin belirli bir saatte çalışması için kapasitesi. Görünür güç, devrenin akımının ve voltajının ürünüdür. Yükte depolanan ve kaynağa geri döndürülen enerjiden veya kaynaktan çekilen akımın dalga şeklini bozan doğrusal olmayan bir yükten dolayı görünen güç gerçek güçten daha büyük olacaktır. Negatif bir güç faktörü, normal olarak yük olan cihaz üretirken, normalde jeneratör olarak düşünülen cihaza geri akar. Bir elektrik güç sisteminde düşük güç faktörüne sahip bir yük, aktarılan aynı miktarda faydalı güç için yüksek güç faktörüne sahip bir yükten daha fazla akım çeker. Daha yüksek akımlar, dağıtım sisteminde kaybedilen enerjiyi arttırır ve daha büyük kablolar ve diğer ekipman gerektirir.
