Pragmatizm, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nde 1870 yılı civarında başlayan felsefi bir gelenektir. Pragmatizm, düşünce işlevinin gerçekliği tanımlamak, temsil etmek veya yansıtmak olduğu fikrinin reddedilmesidir. Bunun yerine, pragmatistlar felsefelerini, düşünce işlevinin tahmini, eylem ve problem çözme için bir araç ya da araç olarak görme fikri etrafında geliştirirler. Pragmatistler, bilginin doğası, dil, kavramlar, anlam, inanç ve bilim gibi çoğu felsefi konunun en iyi temsilci doğruluğu açısından değil, pratik kullanımları ve başarılarıyla bakıldığını ileri sürerler.
