PRE-RAPHAELITISM SÖZCÜĞÜ İNGILIZCE DİLİNDE NE ANLAMA GELİR?
Raphael öncesi Kardeşlik
Pre-Raphaelite Kardeşlik, 1848'de William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais ve Dante Gabriel Rossetti tarafından kurulmuş İngiliz ressam, şair ve eleştirmenlerden oluşan bir gruptu. Üç kurucu William Michael Rossetti, James Collinson, Frederic George Stephens ve Thomas Woolner tarafından yedi üyeli "kardeşlik" ü oluşturmak üzere katıldı. Grubun niyeti, Mekanik yaklaşımın Raphael ve Michelangelo'yu başardı Mannerist sanatçılar tarafından ilk kabul edildiğini reddetmek suretiyle sanatın yeniden düzenlenmesiydi. Üyeleri, Klasik pozların ve özellikle Raphael'in zarif kompozisyonlarının sanatın akademik öğretiminde bozucu bir etki yaptığına, dolayısıyla "Ön Raphael" adının olduğuna inanıyorlardı. Michael Rossetti'ye göre Raphael öncesi dönemlere göre "kaygan", "resim yapma sürecinde gevşek ya da sönmüş ... ve dolayısıyla sıradan ya da konvansiyonel herhangi bir şey ya da kişi" anlamına geliyordu.
