Punic Savaşları
Punic Savaşları M.Ö. 264'ten M.Ö. 146'ya kadar Roma ve Kartaca arasında savaşan üç savaş serisiydi. O zamanlar, muhtemelen şimdiye kadar yaşanan en büyük savaşlardı. Punic terimi, Carthaginians 'Fenikelisan soyuna atıfla "Carthaginian" anlamına gelen Latince Punicus kelimesinden gelmektedir. Punic Savaşlarının başlıca nedeni, mevcut Karthaginian İmparatorluğu ile genişleyen Roman Cumhuriyeti arasındaki çıkar çatışmalarıydı. Romalılar başlangıçta Sicilya üzerinden genişletme ile ilgileniyordu, bunların bir kısmı Karthagin kontrolü altındaydı. İlk Peşin Savaşı'nın başlangıcında, Kartaca, geniş bir deniz imparatorluğuyla Batı Akdeniz'in egemen gücü idi; Roma, İtalya'nın hızla yükselen gücü olsa da, Carthage'ın donanma gücünden yoksundu. Üçüncü savaşın sona ermesiyle birlikte, yüz yıldan fazla bir sürenin sonunda ve her iki yüz binlerce askerin kaybedilmesi üzerine Roma, Kartaca'nın imparatorluğunu fethetti ve şehri tamamen yok etti ve Batı Akdeniz'in en güçlü devleti oldu.
