Radyoloji hem vücuda görselleştirilen hastalığı teşhis etmek ve tedavi etmek için görüntüleme yöntemini kullanan tıbbi bir uzmanlık alanıdır. Radyologlar, hastalıkları teşhis veya tedavi etmek için X-ray radyografisi, ultrason, bilgisayarlı tomografi, nükleer tıp, pozitron emisyon tomografisi ve manyetik rezonans görüntüleme gibi bir dizi görüntüleme teknolojisini kullanırlar. Girişimsel radyoloji, görüntüleme teknolojilerinin yönlendirmesiyle medikal işlemlerin performansıdır. Tıbbi görüntülemenin edinilmesi genellikle radyografi veya radyolojik teknolog tarafından gerçekleştirilir. Radyolog daha sonra görüntüleri yorumluyor ya da "okuyor" ve bulguları ile izlenimleri ya da teşhisi hakkında bir rapor üretiyor. Bu rapor daha sonra rutin veya acil olarak hekim hekime iletilir.
