Ters transkriptaz
Ters transkriptaz, bir RNA şablonundan tamamlayıcı DNA üretmek için kullanılan, ters transkripsiyon adı verilen bir süreç olan enzimdir. RT, retrovirüslerin replikasyonu için gereklidir ve RT inhibitörleri antiretroviral ilaçlar olarak yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır. RT aktivitesi ayrıca kromozom uçlarının replikasyonu ve bazı mobil genetik elementlerle ilişkilidir. Retroviral RT üç ardışık biyokimyasal etkinliğe sahiptir: RNA bağımlı DNA polimeraz, ribonükleaz H ve DNA bağımlı DNA polimeraz. Bu faaliyetler, tek virüslü genomik RNA'yı ana genoma entegre ederek potansiyel olarak ortadan kaldırılması zor olabilen uzun vadeli bir enfeksiyon oluşturan çift sarmallı cDNA'ya dönüştürmek için kullanılır. Aynı reaksiyon dizisi moleküler klonlama, RNA dizilimi, polimeraz zincir reaksiyonu veya genom analizi için RNA'yı DNA'ya dönüştürmek için laboratuarda yaygın şekilde kullanılır.
