Robotik, robotların tasarım, yapım, işletim ve uygulamaları ile bunların kontrol, duyusal geribildirim ve bilgi işleme için bilgisayar sistemleri ile uğraşan teknolojinin dalıdır. Bu teknolojiler, insanların tehlikeli ortamlarda veya imalat süreçlerinde yerini alabilen ya da görünüşte, davranışta ve / veya bilişte insanlara benzeyen otomatik makinelerle ilgilenmektedir. Günümüzün birçok robotu, doğadan, biyolojik ilham edilen robotik alanına katkıda bulunarak esin kaynağı olmuştur. Özerk olarak çalışabilen makineler yaratma kavramı, klasik çağlara dayanıyor ancak robotların işlevselliğine ve potansiyel kullanımına yönelik araştırmalar 20. yüzyıla kadar önemli ölçüde büyümedi. Tarih boyunca, robotiklerin insan davranışlarını taklit ettiği sıklıkla görüldü ve görevleri genellikle benzer bir biçimde yönetti.
