RUPEE SÖZCÜĞÜ İNGILIZCE DİLİNDE NE ANLAMA GELİR?

Rupi, Hindistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Mauritius, Seyşeller, Maldivler, Endonezya ve eski adıyla Burma ve Afganistan'ın para birimlerinin ortak adıdır. Tarihsel olarak, "rupiya" adı verilen ilk para birimi 16. yüzyılda Kuzey Hindistan Sur İmparatorluğu'nun kurucusu Sher Shah Suri tarafından tanıtıldı. Terim, gümüş sikke için Sanskritçe bir terim olan rûpya'dan, güzel biçim olan Sanskritçe rûpadan gelmektedir. Maldivler'de para birimi, Hint rupisinin bir köklü olan rufiya olarak bilinir. Hem Hintli rupiler hem de Pakistan rupisi, yüz paise veya pice cinsinden bölünmüştür. Mauritius ve Sri Lanka rupileri 100 sente bölünürler. Nepal rupisi, yüz paisas ya da dört sukas ya da iki mohor'a ayrılır. Afganistan'ın para birimi, 1925 yılına kadar Afgan rupisi cinsinden ifade edildi ve her Afgan rupisi 60 paisasa bölündü. 1891'de Afgan rupisi getirilmeden önce yasal para birimi Kabile rupisi idi. 20. yüzyılın ortalarına kadar Tibet'in resmi para birimi Tibet rupisi olarak da biliniyordu.
