Seleusid İmparatorluğu
Seleukid İmparatorluğu, Büyük İskender'in yarattığı imparatorluğun bölünmesini takiben Seleucus I Nicator tarafından kurulan Seleukid hanedanı tarafından yönetilen Helenistik bir devlettir. Seleukos, Babylonia'yı aldı ve buradan, İskender'in doğu bölgelerinin çoğunu kapsayacak şekilde hakimiyetlerini genişletti. İktidarının en üstünde Orta Anadolu, Pers, Levant, Mezopotamya, Kuveyt, şimdi Pakistan, Afganistan, Türkmenistan ve Hindistan'ın kuzeybatı kesimleri var. Seleukid İmparatorluğu, çoğunlukla kentsel alanlarda bir Yunan-Makedon politik elitin egemen olduğu Yunan geleneklerinin üstünlüğünü koruyan Helenistik bir kültürün önemli bir merkeziydi. Egemen seçki oluşturan kentlerin Yunan nüfusu Yunanistan'dan göçle güçlendirildi. Roma Ordusu'nun elindeki yenilgiden sonra Anadolu ve Yunanistan'a açılan Selevkocular, ansızın durduruldu. Eski düşmanları Ptolemaik Mısır'ı yenmek için yaptıkları girişimler Roma'nın talepleriyle sinirlendi.
