Kelimenin tam anlamıyla "soğuk su" anlamına gelen, kiler için Arapça bir sözcük haline gelen bir serdab, ölen bir kişinin Ka heykeli için bir oda olarak görev yapan eski bir Mısır mezar yapısıdır. Eski Krallık döneminde kullanılan serdab, ölülerin ruhunun serbestçe dolaşmasına izin vermek için küçük bir yarık veya delik bulunan kapalı bir odaydı. Bu delikler, heykele sunulan tekliflerin kokularına da izin verir. Serdab kelimesini, pek çok piramitte bulunan bir tür dekore edilmemiş oda için de kullandı. Yazıtların olmamasından dolayı, bu odanın ritüel fonksiyonunu belirlemek imkansızdır, ancak birçok mısır uzmanı, ikinci hanedanın özel ve kral mezarlarındaki yeraltı depolarıyla benzer bir depolama alanı olarak görmektedir.
