Siphuncle
Sifunkül bir kafatası yumuşakçası kabuğunun içinden uzunlamasına geçen bir doku bandıdır. Sadece bölmeli kabuklu kafatası, soyu tükenmiş amonyak ve belemnitler ve yaşayan nautiluslar, mürekkep balığı ve Spirula gibi sifnkleklere sahiptir. Mürekkepbalığı durumunda, sifunkle belirsizdir ve o hayvanın oldukça modifiye edilmiş kabuğunun tüm küçük odalarını birbirine bağlar; Diğer kafatopodlarda ipliğe benzer ve odaları bölen duvarlarda küçük açıklıklar geçer. Sifunkül öncelikle kabuk büyüdükçe yeni odalardaki suyu boşaltmada kullanılır. Esasen ne olur sefalopod, sifinkle içindeki kanın tuzluluğunu arttırır ve su osmoz yoluyla kan içine daha seyreltik odadan geçer. Aynı zamanda gaz, çoğunlukla azot, oksijen ve karbon dioksit, sifunküldeki kandan boşaltma odasına dağılır. Kafadanızın kabuğu pompalamayacağına dikkat edin; odaya giren gaz pasif bir süreçtir, bunun yerine odadaki suyu absorbe etmek için enerji kullanılır.
