Solarisation, fotoğrafın negatif veya fotografik bir baskıda kaydedildiği görüntünün tonunda tamamen veya kısmen tersine çevrildiği bir fenomendir. Koyu alanlar açık veya hafif alanlar karanlık görünür. Bu terim negatiflere atıfta bulunulduğunda Sabattier efekti ile eş anlamlıdır, ancak baskılardan bahsetmek için kullanıldığında teknik açıdan yanlıştır. Kısaca, mekanizma halid tanesinde, latent imajı yok etmek için yeterli miktarlarda tahıl yüzeyine yayılmış maruz bırakılarak serbest bırakılan halojen iyonlarından kaynaklanmaktadır.

Sözlükte güneşleşmenin ilk tanımı güneş ışınlarına maruz kalma ile tedavidir. Güneşlilik özelliğinin diğer tanımı, tonların bir kısmının negatif veya baskının tersine çevrilmesidir.
