Sonar
Sonar, diğer gemiler gibi suyun yüzeyinde veya altındaki nesneleri gezinmek, iletişim kurmak veya saptamak için ses yayılımı kullanan bir tekniktir. İki tür teknoloji "sonar" kelimesini paylaşıyor: pasif sonar aslında gemiler tarafından yapılan sesi dinliyor; aktif sonar atış sesleri yayar ve yankıları dinler. Sonar, akustik bir konumda ve sudaki "hedeflerin" eko özelliklerinin ölçümü için bir araç olarak kullanılabilir. Havadaki akustik yer, radarın tanıtımından önce kullanıldı.
