Zırhlı Süvari Alayı'na komuta etti ve Mayıs 1970'de Kamboçya'ya saldırdı. 5 Mayıs 1970'de Starry, Kuzey Vietnamlı bir el bombası tarafından yaralandı ve gelecekteki Ordu Genel Sekreteri Frederick Franks, Jr. 1973, General, ABD Ordu Zırhı Merkezi ve Okulu ve daha sonra komutanı V Kolordu, Federal Almanya'da komutanlık yapmaya başladı. Daha sonra, TRADOC komutanı olarak Starry, 21. yüzyılda savaşı sağlamak için Ordu'yu hazırlayan AirLand Battle doktrinini formüle etti.
