Stellaratör
Stellarator, kontrollü bir nükleer füzyon reaksiyonunu sürdürmek için sıcak bir plazmayı manyetik alanlarla sınırlandırmak için kullanılan bir cihazdır. İlk, 1950 yılında Lyman Spitzer tarafından icat edilen ve daha sonra Princeton Plazma Fizik Laboratuarı olan önümüzdeki yıl inşa edilen, en erken kontrollü füzyon cihazlarından biridir. Adı, yıldızın nesnesi olan güneşin güç kaynağından yararlanma olanağı anlamına geliyor. Stellaratörler 1950'lerde ve 60'larda popülerdi, ancak tokamak tasarımlarının çok daha iyi sonuçları 1970'lerde lehine düşmesine neden oldu. Daha yakın bir tarihte, 1990'larda, tokamak konsepti ile ilgili sorunlar stellarator tasarımına yenilenmeye yol açtı ve bir dizi yeni cihaz inşa edildi. Bazı önemli modern stellarator deneyleri Almanya'da Wendelstein 7-X, ABD'de Helisel Simetrik Deney ve Japonya'da Geniş Helisel Cihaz'tır.

Sözlükte stellaratörün tanımı termonükleer reaksiyonlar araştırmasında kullanılan ve bir plazmanın sarmal bir manyetik alanla içerileceği şekilde tasarlanmış toroidal bir kaptan oluşan bir cihazdır. Manyetik alan, akım taşıyan bobinlerle üretilir.
