Stigmata, Hıristiyan inancının üyeleri tarafından, eller, bilekler ve ayaklar gibi Hz. İsa'nın çarmıha gerilmesi yaralarına tekabül eden yerlerde acı hissi ve vücut izlerini tanımlamak için kullanılan bir terimdir. Bu terim Saint Paul'un Galatyalılara Mektupunda "Ben vücudum İsanın izlerini taşır" şeklindeki satırdan kaynaklanmaktadır. Stigmata, bir hayvan, köle tanımlamak için kullanılmış olabilecek bir marka, dövme ya da marka anlamına gelen στίγμα damgası Yunanca kelimesinin çoğuludur. Bireysel bir stigmata bir damgalanma ya da bir damgalımcu denir. Stigmata öncelikle Roma Katolik inancıyla ilişkilidir. Çoğu bildirilen damgalama, Katolik dini emirlerin üyesidir. Aziz Francis Assisi, Hıristiyan tarihinin ilk kaydedilmiş damgalanmasıydı. Elli yıldan fazla bir süre, Aziz Capuchin Tarikatı Pietrelcina Aziz Padre Pio, 20. yüzyılın birçok doktor tarafından incelenen damgalanma bildirdi. Tüm damgalanmaların büyük bir yüzdesi kadınlardır.
