Yapısal dilbilim, İsviçreli dilbilimci Ferdinand de Saussure'nin çalışmasından kaynaklanan dilbilimine bir yaklaşımdır ve yapısalcılığın genel yaklaşımının bir parçasıdır. De Saussure'ın 1916'da ölümünden sonra yayınlanan Genel Dilbilim Kursu, dilin birbirine bağlı birimlerin statik bir sistemi olarak incelenmesini vurguladı.
