Aptallık, bilgeliğin olmaması veya başarısızlığı ve doğru seçimler yapılmasıdır. Bu anlamda, zekanın eksikliği olan aptallıktan farklıdır. Aptalca bir hareket aptallık olarak adlandırılır. Aptalca konuşma stultiloquence denir. Pavlus'un Korintlilere yazdığı mektupta aptalcalık ve bilgelik zıttı. Entellektüel küstahlığı kınamakta ve daha sonra öğrenmenin mümkün olduğu aptalca bir tutum benimsemektedir. Platon da, "Bilginin incelenmesi için kötü donanımlı olduğunu bilen en akıllı adam" dedi, fakat Pavlus, bilgeliği ve Yunanlıların sebebi arasında bir ayrım yapıyor.
