Sentez gazı
Syngas veya sentez gazı, öncelikli olarak hidrojen, karbon monoksit ve çoğunlukla bir miktar karbon dioksit içeren bir yakıt gazı karışımıdır. Adı, sentetik doğal gaz üretmede ve amonyak veya metanol üretmede ara ürün olarak kullanılmasından geliyor. Syngas, gaz haline getirildiğinde ve elektriğe dönüştüğünde kullanılır. Syngas aynı zamanda, Fischer-Tropsch yöntemi ve daha önce Mobil methanol'den benzin prosesi ile bir yakıt ya da yağlayıcı olarak sentetik petrol üretimi için bir ara madde olarak kullanılır. Syngas yanıcıdır ve çoğunlukla içten yanmalı motorların bir yakıt olarak kullanılır. Doğal gazın enerji yoğunluğunun yarısından daha azı var. Üretim yöntemleri, hidrojen üretmek için doğal gazın veya sıvı hidrokarbonların buharla reformasyonunu, kömürün gazlaştırılmasını, biyokütleyiciliğini ve atıklardan enerji ile gazlaştırma tesislerinin bazı türlerini içerir.

Sözlükte sentez gazı tanımı karbon dioksit, karbon monoksit ve önceden amonyak sentezi için hidrojen oranını zenginleştirmek için buharla tepkimeye sokarak su gazı kullanarak yapılan bir hidrojen karışımıdır. Sentez gazının diğer tanımı, organik kimyasalların sentezinde kullanılan ve yakıt olarak buharla doğal gazın buharlaştırılmasıyla yapılan benzer gaz karışımlarıdır.
