Tableless web tasarımı, sayfa düzeni kontrolü amacıyla HTML tablolarını kullanmaktan kaçınan bir web tasarım felsefesidir. HTML tabloları yerine, Basamaklı Stil Sayfaları gibi stil sayfası dilleri, web sayfasında öğeleri ve metinleri düzenlemek için kullanılır. CSS, Web erişilebilirliğini artırmak ve HTML kodunu sunum yerine tamamen anlamsal yapmak için Aralık 1996'da W3C tarafından tanıtıldı. 1990'ların sonunda, dot-com patlaması web sayfası oluşturma ve tasarımının "yeni medyası" nda hızlı bir büyümeye neden olan aynı dönemde, HTML tablolarını, bunların satırlarını, sütunlarını ve hücrelerini kullanma eğilimi başladı , tüm web sayfalarının düzenini kontrol etmek.
