TEAK SÖZCÜĞÜ İNGILIZCE DİLİNDE NE ANLAMA GELİR?

Tik, tropik bir sert ağaç ağacı türü olan Tectona grandis'tir. Tür Lamiaceae ailesine yerleştirilir. Tectona grandis, karışık sert ağaç ormanlarında egemen olan geniş, yaprak döken bir ağaçtır. Alt yüzünde genellikle kıllı olan küçük, hoş kokulu beyaz çiçekler ve kâğıt yaprakları vardır. Bazen "Birmanya Timi" olarak bilinir. Teak ahşabı taze öğütülürken deri benzeri bir kokusu vardır. Teak ahşap özellikle dayanıklılığı ve su direnci açısından önemlidir ve tekne yapımı, dış inşaat, kaplama, mobilya, oyma, talaş kaldırma ve diğer küçük ahşap projelerde kullanılır. Tectona grandis, güney ve güneydoğu Asya'da, özellikle Hindistan, Endonezya, Malezya, Tayland ve Burma'da yaşamaktadır ancak Afrika ve Karayipler'de pek çok ülkede doğallaştırılmış ve ekilmiştir. Burma, dünyanın toplam tik üretiminin yaklaşık üçte birini oluşturuyor. Teak sözcüğü Tamil "tekku", Malayalam sözcükleri thekku ve Telugu "teku" dır. Oradan Portekiz tecasına gitti.
