Bir test yatağı büyük geliştirme projelerinin denenmesi için bir platformdur. Test yatakları, bilimsel teorileri, hesaplama araçlarını ve yeni teknolojileri titiz, şeffaf ve tekrarlanabilir test etmeye izin verir. Bu terim, canlı veya üretim ortamında test etme tehlikelerinden korunan bir geliştirme ortamını tanımlamak için birçok disiplinde kullanılır. Belli bir modülün izole edilmiş bir biçimde test edilmesi için bir yöntemdir. Kum havuzuna benzer şekilde uygulanabilir, ancak mutlaka güvenlik amaçları için değil. Bir test yatağı, konseptin bir kanıtı olarak veya yeni bir modül daha sonra eklenecek program / sistem dışında test edildiğinde kullanılır.
