Testis
Testis, hayvanlardaki erkek gonad'tır. Homolog oldukları yumurtalıklarda olduğu gibi, testisler hem üreme sistemi hem de endokrin sistemin bileşenleridir. Testislerin başlıca işlevleri başta testosteron olmak üzere sperm üretmek ve androjenler üretmektir. Testisin her iki fonksiyonu, ön hipofiz tarafından üretilen gonadotropik hormonlardan etkilenir. Luteinize edici hormon testosteron salınımı ile sonuçlanır. Spermatogenezi desteklemek için testosteron ve follikül uyarıcı hormonun varlığı gereklidir. Hayvan çalışmalarında, testislerin aşırı ya da çok düşük östrojen seviyelerine maruz kalması durumunda, spermatogenez, hayvanlar infertil hale gelecek şekilde bozulabileceğini gösterdi.
