Hydrogenophilaceae
Hidrojenofilaceae, iki cinsi olan bir Betaproteobacteria familyasıdır. Tüm Proteo bakteriler gibi Gram negatiftirler. Hidrojenofil 50 ° C civarında büyüyen ve enerjilerini oksitleyici hidrojenden elde eden termofiliktir. Hydrogenophilus ve Thiobacillus cinslerini içerir. Thiobacillus spp. patates kabukları gibi zararlı böcek kontrolünde kullanılabilir. Etkilenen bir alan sülfür ve Thiobacillus spp. Ile muamele görürse, bakteriler kükürtü oksitleyerek sülfürik asite bölerler ve patates kabukları asidik koşullara tolere edemeyeceği için zararlıyı yok eder. Thiobacillus thioparus, kükürt dioksitin sülfüröz asite oksidasyonu yoluyla asit yağmurunun oluşumuna katkıda bulunabilir. Hydrogenophilus thermoluteolus daha önce sadece kaplıcalarda bulunan fakültatif bir kemoitototroftur. Bununla birlikte, 2004 yılında Antarctica Gölü Vostok'u kaplayan buz katmanı altında yaklaşık 3 km derinlikte alınan buzul çekirdek örneklerinden izole edildi. Buzdaki bu termofilik bakterilerin varlığı, Vostok Gölü'nün soğuk su gövdesinin altında bir jeotermal sistem bulunduğunu düşündürmektedir.
