Rekabet yönetmeliğinin en büyük ve en etkili iki sistemi Birleşik Devletler antitröst yasası ve Avrupa Birliği rekabet hukukudur. Dünyadaki ulusal ve bölgesel rekabet otoriteleri, uluslararası destek ve uygulama ağları oluşturdu. Modern rekabet hukuku, tarihsel olarak ülke düzeyinde, esas itibariyle ulus devletin sınırları içerisindeki pazarlarda adil rekabeti teşvik etmek ve korumak için gelişmiştir.
