Urasil
Uracil / jʊərəsɪl /, A, G, C ve U harfleri ile temsil edilen RNA nükleik asidindeki dört nükleozazdan biridir. Diğerleri adenin, sitozin ve guanindir. RNA'da, urasil iki hidrojen bağı vasıtasıyla adene bağlanır. DNA'da urasil nükleobazı yerine timin kullanılır. Urasil, demin türevli timin olarak düşünülmüş olabilir. Urasil yaygın ve doğal olarak bulunan bir pirimidin türevidir. Başlangıçta 1900 yılında keşfedilen, sığır timüsünde ve dalakta bulunan maya nuclein'in hidroliziyle izole edildi, ringa balığı spermleri ve buğday tohumları. Işık absorbe edebilen düzlemsel, doymamış bir bileşiktir. 2008 yılında, Murchison meteoritinde bulunan organik bileşiklerin 12C / 13C izotop oranlarına dayanılarak yapılan araştırmalar, urasil, ksantin ve ilgili moleküllerin yerüstü dışında oluştuğunu ileri sürdü. 2012'de Satürn sisteminde yörüngede bulunan Cassini misyonundan alınan bir analiz, Titan'ın yüzey bileşiminin urasil içerebileceğini gösterdi.
