Uraninit
Uraninit, büyük oranda UO2 olan bir radyoaktif, uranyum bakımından zengin maden ve cevherdir ancak oksidasyona bağlı olarak mineral genellikle U3O8 değişkenini içerir. Buna ek olarak, uranyumun bozulması nedeniyle kurşun oksitleri ve az miktarda helyum içermektedir. Ayrıca, toryum ve nadir toprak elementleri de içerebilir. En çok pitchblende olarak bilinir. Mineral, en azından 15. yüzyıldan beri Alman / Çek sınırındaki Cevher Dağlarındaki gümüş madenlerinden biliniyordu. Tür yerleşimi F.E.Brückmann'ın 1772'de minerali tarif ettiği dağların Çek tarafındaki Jáchymov kasabasıdır. Almanya'daki Johanngeorgenstadt mevduatından Pitchblende, 1789'da M. Coolap tarafından element uranyumunu keşfetmek için kullanılmıştır. Tüm uraninit mineralleri uranyumun radyoaktif bozunma ürünü olarak az miktarda radyum içerir. Uraninit, daima sırasıyla 238U ve 235U uranyum izotoplarının bozunma serisinin son ürünleri olan 206Pb ve 207Pb kurşun izotoplarının az miktarda içermektedir. Alfa çürümesinin bir sonucu olarak uraninitte az miktarda helyum mevcuttur.
