Vasküler doku
Vasküler doku, vasküler bitkilerde bulunan birden fazla hücre türünün oluşturduğu karmaşık bir iletken dokudur. Vasküler dokunun temel bileşenleri ksilem ve filendir. Bu iki doku sıvı ve besin maddelerini dahili olarak taşır. Vasküler dokuyla ilişkili iki meristem de vardır: vasküler cambium ve mantar kambium. Belirli bir bitki içindeki tüm vasküler dokular, birlikte o bitkinin vasküler doku sistemini oluşturur. Farklı vasküler dokudaki hücreler tipik olarak uzun ve incedir. Su, mineraller ve besin maddelerinin bitki boyunca iletilmesinde ksilem ve floem işlevi yürütüldüğünden formlarının boruya benzemesi şaşırtıcı değildir. Floronun ayrı ayrı hücreleri, borunun kesitleri gibi aynı uçtan uca bağlıdır. Bitki büyüdükçe, yeni vasküler doku, bitkinin büyüyen uçlarında farklılaşır. Yeni doku mevcut vasküler doku ile uyumludur ve bitki boyunca bağlantısını korur. Bitkilerdeki vasküler doku, vasküler demetler olarak adlandırılan uzun, ayrı şeritler halinde düzenlenmiştir. Bu demetler, hem ksilem hem de filamentin yanı sıra destekleyici ve koruyucu hücreler içerir.
İngilizce sözlükte vascular tissue sözcüğünün tanımı
Sözlükte vasküler doku tanımı ağırlıklı olarak ksilem ve filondan oluşan ve bitki boyunca sürekli bir sistem olarak ortaya çıkan yüksek bitki dokularıdır: su, mineral tuzlar ve sentezlenmiş gıda maddeleri yapar ve mekanik destek sağlar. Ayrıca iletken doku da denir.
