Yanlış, yasadışı veya ahlaki olmayan bir fiildir. Hukuki yanlışlar, genellikle her bir eyalet veya yargı kanununda oldukça açık bir şekilde tanımlanmıştır. Medeni kanun ülkeleri, ihlaller gibi bazı ilave kategorilere sahip olma eğilimindeyken, ortak hukuk ülkelerinde sivil yaralar ve suçlara bölünebilirler. Ahlaki yanlış, yasal yanlışın temelini oluşturan bir kavramdır ve bazı ahlaki yanlışlar tecavüz veya cinayet gibi kanun tarafından cezalandırılabilir. Diğer ahlaki hatalar yasayla ilgisi yoktur.
