iyon
Bir iyon bir atom, bir atom grubu veya bir tek miktarda elektrik yükü olan atom altı bir parçacıktır. En basit iyonlar elektronlar, protonlar ve alfa parçacıklarıdır. Çekirdeğin içindeki proton miktarından daha elektron kabuğunda daha fazla elektrona sahip olan negatif yüklü bir iyon, anoda çekildiğinden anyon olarak bilinir; katota çekildiğinden, pozitif yüklü iyon, protonlardan daha az elektrona sahiptir, katyon olarak bilinir. Oksijen içeren bir anyon poliatomu bazen oksianyon olarak bilinir. İyonlar, nötr atomlar ve elektrik yükü miktarını ve birden fazla elektron sayısını belirten bir "üst simge" varlığı haricinde elektriksel olarak hareket eden moleküller gibi işaretlenir.
