Domates, meyveleri sebze olarak bilinen ve yiyecek olarak yetiştirilen bir tür bitkidir. Domates Meksika'dan Orta Amerika, Güney ve Güney Amerika'nın Peru'ya kadar Amerika'dan gelir. Birçok domates tarım ve sebze pazarları dahil pazarlarda satılmaktadır. Domates, mevsimlik bir bitki olarak yetiştirilen bir bitki türüdür. Diğer ağaçlara veya diğer şapkalara bağlayarak 1-3 m yüksekliğe ulaşabilir. Domateslerin yaprakları 10-25 cm uzunluğunda iğneli olup 5-9 küçük yaprak, her biri 8 cm uzunluğunda ve lifli kenarlara sahiptir. Hem sapları hem de domates yaprakları oldukça kıllıdır. Domates çiçeği 1-2 cm çapında, sarı, beş kanat da bir korolada gözüküyor; Tipik olarak, domates çiçeği cyme 3-12'de bir kez görülür. Domates yenilebilir kısmıdır. Boyutu 1-2 cm'den 10 cm'den fazla türe göre değişir, ancak en çok satılan tip 5-6 cm'lik bir çapa sahiptir. Domateslerin rengi de en popüler kırmızı rengiyle değişir.
