Trochus, neredeyse düzenli koni şekli olan, dekoratif inci kalın bir tabaka olan deniz salyangozunun bir türüdür. Kabuğun yüksekliği 5-15 cm. Conchaolin, dairesel, ince. Dokunma gövdesi olarak işlev gören dokunaçlı epipodyum iyice gelişmiştir. Vajinaya çekilebilirler. Trochus, deniz mahsulleri açısından zengin denizlerin büyük çoğunluğunun tropik bölgelerden ılıman bölgesine kadar ev sahipliği yapıyor. Varlıklarının merkezi, en zengin ve çarpıcı olan Indo-Pasifik'tir. Kumsaldan kayalıklara, kayalık ve mercan resiflerine kadar çeşitli kıyı tabanları üzerinde kullanılırlar. Büyük trokus türleri bazen yerliler tarafından yenilir. Özellikle, bu salyangozlardan bazılarının kabukları, çoğunlukla düğmeler üretimi için kullanılan inci bir sünger elde etmek için büyük çapta yakalanmıştır. Trochus – rodzaj morskich ślimaków o muszlach w kształcie prawie regularnego stożka, posiadających wewnątrz grubą warstwę dekoracyjnej masy perłowej. Wysokość muszli 5-15 cm. Wieczko konchiolinowe, koliste, cienkie. Epipodium dobrze rozwinięte, z czułkowatymi wyrostkami, służącymi jako organ dotyku. Mogą one być wciągane do rodzaju pochwy. Trochusy zamieszkują zdecydowaną większość mórz pełnosłonych od tropików po strefę umiarkowaną. Centrum ich występowania stanowi Indopacyfik, gdzie skrępy są najliczniejsze i najozdobniejsze. Bytują na różnych typach dna wód przybrzeżnych - od piaszczystego przez kamieniste po skały i rafy koralowe. Większe gatunki trochusów są czasem jadane przez krajowców. Szczególne znaczenie gospodarcze mają muszle niektórych ślimaków z tego rodzaju, poławianych na dużą skalę dla zdobycia masy perłowej, służącej głównie do produkcji guzików. Okazalszych muszli miejscowa ludność używa do wyrobu bransolet. Do rodziny krępaczkowatych należą również inne, podobne rodzaje ślimaków.
