Strabon'un (M.Ö. 63 ya da M.Ö. 60'da Ammana Pontica - (bugün Amasya) - MS 21 ya da 26) latince edilmiş versiyonunda Strabon (Strabo), aslında Sasu anlamına gelen bir takma isimdi. tarihi olarak ünlü bir Yunan coğrafyacısı. Küçük Asya, Ermenistan, Yunanistan, Roma ve İskenderiye'de eğitim gördü ve Avrupa, Afrika ve Küçük Asya'ya Kızıldeniz'e gitti. 47 kitapta yer alan ilk eskiz taslaklar, muhtemelen M.Ö. 27 yılları arasında yazılmıştır.
