Аборт - це припинення вагітності шляхом вилучення або вигнання з порожнини матки або ембріона перед життєздатністю. Переривання вагітності може відбуватися спонтанно, у такому разі його часто називають викиднем або це може бути навмисно викликане. Термін аборт найчастіше стосується індукованого аборту людської вагітності. Після життєздатності відповідна процедура називається "пізньою втратою вагітності".
