Відстоювання - це термін у процедурі виборів, коли учасник голосування або не йде на голосування, або у парламентській процедурі присутній під час голосування, але не виносить голосування. Відмову слід протиставити "блакитному голосуванню", в якому виборчий видає виборчий бюлетень, який навмисно стає невірним, позначивши його неправильно або не позначивши нічого взагалі. Проголосував "порожній виборчик", хоча його голосування може вважатися зіпсованим голосом, залежно від кожного законодавства, а виборця, що утримується, не голосувало.
