Аллотропія або аллотропність (від грецького ἄλλος (allos), що означає "інше" та τρόπος (tropos), що означає "спосіб, форма") є властивістю деяких хімічних елементів існувати в двох або кількох різних формах, відомих як аллотропи цих елементи Алотропи - це різні структурні модифікації елемента; атоми елементу сполучаються іншим способом. Наприклад, аллотропи вуглецю включають алмаз (де атоми вуглецю з'єднуються разом у розташуванні тетраедричної решітки), графіт (де атоми вуглецю з'єднуються в листах гексагональної решітки), графен (одиночні аркуші графіту) і фуллерени (де атоми вуглецю з'єднуються в сферичних, трубчастих або еліпсоїдальних формаціях). Термін "алотропія" використовується тільки для елементів, а не для сполук. Більш загальний термін, який використовується для будь-якого кристалічного матеріалу, - це поліморфізм. Алотропія відноситься лише до різних форм елемента в межах однієї фази (тобто різних твердих, рідких або газовых форм); ці різні стани не є собою, вважаються прикладами аллотропії.
