Тест Ames - це широко застосовуваний метод, який використовує бактерії для перевірки того, чи може даний хімічний матеріал викликати рак. Більш офіційно, це біологічний аналіз для оцінки мутагенного потенціалу хімічних сполук. Позитивний тест показує, що хімічний матеріал мутагенний і тому може діяти як канцероген, оскільки рак часто пов'язаний з мутацією.
