Трансферна РНК є молекулою адаптера, що складається з РНК, як правило, від 73 до 94 нуклеотидів у довжину, що служить як фізична зв'язок між нуклеотидною послідовністю нуклеїнових кислот та амінокислотною послідовністю білків. Це робить це, переносячи амінокислоту в білково-синтетичний механізм клітини, як наказує три нуклеотидної послідовності в повідомленні РНК. Таким чином, тРНК є необхідною складовою трансляції білка, біологічного синтезу нових білків відповідно до генетичного коду.
