Аксіома або постулат є приміткою або початковою точкою міркування. Як класично задумана, аксіома є приміщенням, настільки очевидним, що можна сприймати як істинне без суперечок. Слово походить від грецького ἀξίωμα (ахсіома) "те, що вважається гідним або придатним" або "той, який визнає себе явним". Як використовується в сучасній логіці, аксіома є просто приміткою або відправною точкою для міркування. Аксиоми визначають і обмежують область аналізу; відносна правда аксіоми вважається само собою зрозумілою в межах конкретної області аналізу і служить вихідною точкою для висновку та виведення інших відносних істин.
