Британський Сомаліленд був британським протекторатом у сучасному північно-західному Сомалі. На протязі більшої частини свого існування територія межує з італійським Сомалілендом, Французьким Сомалілендом та Ефіопією. З 1940 по 1941 рік він був окупований італійцями і був частиною італійської Східної Африки. Протекторат незабаром отримав незалежність 26 червня 1960 р. Як держава Сомаліленду, перш ніж об'єднати, як заплановано, з Трастовою територією Сомалі, щоб утворити Сомалійську республіку 1 липня 1960 р. Уряд Сомаліленду, самовизначену суверенну державу, яка міжнародно визнана як автономний регіон Сомалі, розглядає цю територію як державу-правонаступник Державі Сомаліленд.
