Бруцин - гіркий алкалоїд, тісно пов'язаний зі стрихніном. Це трапляється в кількох видів рослин, найвідомішим є дерево Стринонських нукс-вома, що зустрічається в Південно-Східній Азії. Хоча бруцин пов'язаний із стрихніном, він не такий отрутний. Тим не менш, людина, що споживає понад 2 мг чистого бруцину, майже напевно зазнає симптомів, що нагадують отруєння стрихніном (LD50 (щурів, пероральний) 1 мг / кг, LD50 (кролики, пероральний) 4 мг / кг).
