Карбоновий папір був спочатку папір, покритий з одного боку шаром сухого чесного чорнила або пігментного покриття, зв'язаним воском, який використовувався для одержання однієї або декількох копій одночасно з створенням оригінального документа при використанні пишучої машинки або кулькової ручки.
