Рада економічної взаємодопомоги була економічною організацією з 1949 по 1991 роки під керівництвом Радянського Союзу, що складалася з країн Східного блоку разом з низкою соціалістичних держав в інших країнах світу. Comecon був відповіддю Східного блоку на формування Організації європейського економічного співробітництва в Західній Європі. Описуючий термін часто застосовувався до всіх багатосторонніх дій, пов'язаних з членами організації, а не обмежувався прямими функціями Comecon та його органів. Таке використання іноді поширювалося також на двосторонні відносини між членами, оскільки в системі соціалістичних міжнародних економічних відносин багатосторонні угоди, як правило, загального характеру, як правило, здійснювалися шляхом набору більш детальних двосторонніх угод.
